Briefing on France's Response to Anti-Semitism
Alexis Schwartz, Associate Director at the JCRC's Israel Action Center, attended a briefing on February 19th for American Jewish organizations on ways the government of France is working to combat anti-Semitism hosted by French Ambassador Gérard Araud. France's Interior Minister, Bernard Cazenueve, who was in Washington DC for the White House's summit on extremism, addressed the organizations' representatives. He reiterated France's commitment to protect Jewish institutions with soldiers and police and said that there is no France without French Jews. Anti-Semitism and extremism are a problem for the whole nation of France and the Western world and the government is committed to battling it in smart ways. Minister Cazenueve also addressed technology leaders in Silicon Valley on his trip and requested their help to battle extremism on social media. He discussed the importance of Jewish-Muslim-community partnerships with law enforcement officials to find new, smart, and innovative ways to stop terrorist and anti-Semitic attacks.
