The JCRC is gratified that this year Falls Church City Public Schools (FCCPS), for the first time, adopted a a truly inclusive and equitable calendar that includes school closures on Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Diwali and Eid.
The calendar process has now begun for the 2022-2023 academic year. FCCPS staff have presented two proposed calendars to the school board. To our disappointment, only one includes days off coinciding with the Jewish holidays, as well as holidays of other minority faith communities.
It is critical that the Falls Church City School Board hear from community members that there is widespread support for sustaining these new closures and that they must not rescind the significant steps they have taken towards achieving equity for all students through the adoption of this year’s calendar.
Make sure board members hear from you before their public discussion on November 23! Your input will inform their deliberations.
Don't miss your opportunity to take action now to support FCCPS closures on Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Diwali and Eid. See call to action below.
