As Shabbat approaches, we are pleased to share with you good news regarding the finalization of 2022-2023 academic calendars in five school districts across Northern Virginia. The JCRC is enormously gratified that this week the Arlington, Falls Church, and Loudoun school boards, for the second year, adopted truly inclusive and equitable academic calendars that include closures on key minority-faith holidays, including the first day of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. On December 16 the City of Alexandria Public Schools for the first time followed suit, adopting a calendar with the same key closures. These four jurisdictions join Prince William County, which earlier this month adopted a 2022-2023 calendar that maintains all of the closures it introduced last year.
Your voices made a huge difference in this process, and we thank you for your advocacy! It is important that we now express our appreciation to our school board members in Arlington.
