For Immediate Hire: Education Associate

The JCRC of Greater Washington has an immediate job opening for a four-month, full-time, temporary Education Associate.
 
As a result of a dramatic uptick in antisemitism in our regional school systems, funding has been allocated for this temporary full-time position, that will likely become a permanent full time job starting July 1, 2023.

ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION
The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of Greater Washington is the non-profit public affairs and community relations arm of the regional Jewish community, representing over one hundred Jewish organizations and synagogues and The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, in the nation’s capital region – the 3rd largest Jewish community in the United States.

The JCRC focuses on government relations, Israel advocacy and education, intergroup/interfaith relations, antisemitism, Holocaust commemoration and education, K-12 education outreach, security, and other matters. The JCRC serves as the representative of the Jewish community to the media, government officials, interfaith leaders, educators, law enforcement, community institutions and others.

As a result of a dramatic uptick in antisemitism in our region’s public school system, resources have been allocated to this temporary four-month full time position that is likely to become a permanent full-time position as of July 1, with additional duties assigned to position. 

Our Education Commission, which provides a host of education programs and services: 

  • advocates with school administrators, school board members, and other elected officials on matters impacting the needs and interests of Jewish students and their families to foster a safe and welcoming school environment.
  • designs and conducts trainings for educators, mental health professionals, and other school staff on antisemitism, Jewish beliefs and practices, and the unique needs and experiences of Jewish students and their families.
  • holistically responds to acts of antisemitism and bigotry in our schools.
  • empowers Jewish parents and students to serve as catalysts for the advancement of mutual respect and safety in their school communities. 
  • operates the Student-to-Student peer education program and a Holocaust Survivors Speakers bureau.

    POSITION SUMMARY
    The primary responsibilities of the Education Associate are to: 
  • Coordinate the Student to Student program, a high school peer education initiative that trains Jewish teens to share Jewish beliefs, customs, and practices with their peers, and to discuss their own relationships to Judaism, antisemitism, the Holocaust, and Israel.
  • Organize speaking engagements for Holocaust Survivors and their descendants at schools, youth and community organizations, houses of worship, and business, civic and governmental groups.   
  • Assist the Director of Education Programs and Services with other programing efforts and with responses to acts of antisemitism and bigotry.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications: 
  • A passion for the Jewish community, knowledge of Judaism, and of the education field generally.
  • Ability to work effectively with different populations within the Jewish community, including teens, Holocaust Survivors, and their families.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of programmatic experience. 
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently to complete assignments in a demanding environment where priorities change frequently.
  • Extremely well organized, initiative-taking, focused, and meticulous.
  • Exceptional writing and solid public speaking skills. 
  • Proficiency in computer usage and social media.
  •  Willingness to work occasional evenings and Sundays.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in a related field such as Education, Jewish Studies, or Social Work.

    Salary range is prorated at $65,000-$75,000 per year, depending on experience, with no benefits. Should position become full time on July 1, staff member is eligible for JCRC’s generous benefits package that includes, but is not limited to, health insurance, short term and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, retirement, and generous leave policy.
