Greater Washington Public Schools Calendar 2022-2023 Advocacy

We encourage Montgomery County and Fairfax county residents to respond to the calendar surveys for your respective school districts.  All residents can respond whether or not you have children enrolled in public schools in your jurisdictions. See details below.

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Advocacy Efforts

FCPS Administration and the Fairfax County school board are gearing up for the development of the 2022-2023 calendar – and so are we. The JCRC remains committed to advocating for FCPS to adopt a truly equitable, inclusive calendar that will reflect the significantly increased number of minority-faith students within the school system. For more information, please see JCRC’s recent statement on implementation of the FCPS “O” Calendar during the High Holidays in September.

We need your help to emphasize to FCPS leadership that this issue remains of critical importance to our families.

1.  Please complete the calendar survey using the link you should have received from FCPS last week. The deadline is November 10th. We understand there have been some technical problems with the survey rollout; if you did not receive a link last week or are having trouble accessing it, please contact FCPSSurvey@fcps.edu to request that a new link be sent to you.

Please share your support for school closures corresponding with Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, as well as any frustrations you may have with the current “O” calendar.

2. Save the date for a Calendar Development Webinar for parents, staff, students and community members on Monday, November 8th, from 7 PM to 8 PMREGISTER HERE to attend this Webinar.  After registering, you will receive the webinar link on November 8, from “Office of Communication and Community Relations.”

Please visit FCPS’ website for more information on the calendar development process. Thank you in advance for your participation.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS (MCPS)

MCPS has released two surveys, one concerning the 2022-2023 academic calendar, and the other regarding the search for a new superintendent.

1. Calendar survey

The Board is currently considering three calendar options for the 2022-2023 academic year.  All three calendars include school closures on the first day of Rosh Hashanah and on Yom Kippur. The most significant distinction among the calendar options is the start and end date for the school year. In addition, the third calendar option gives students off all of Passover, while the other two only give off the first weekend of Passover.

Please complete the survey, which may be found here.

2. Survey on MCPS Superintendent Search

The search firm retained by the School Board to manage the search process has released a survey to solicit feedback from the community.

In addition to the survey, the Board is also hosting two virtual webinars regarding the search process. We encourage you to attend one of these sessions to learn more.
