JCRC Applauds Allocation of Emergency Security Funds for DC Nonprofits

JCRC Statement

The following is a statement from Ron Halber, Chief Executive Officer and Rachel Feinstein, Director of DC Government and Community Affairs, respectively, of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington,.

“The JCRC deeply appreciates Mayor Bowser and her administration for doing what all local governments should do: acting quickly and decisively to protect the safety and well-being of their residents.

“We advocated strongly for the creation of the Safe and Secure DC Nonprofit Fund Grant Program in 2024 and are pleased to see policymakers utilizing it now amid a spate of hate crimes at home and military conflict abroad. In a time when violence against Jews and Jewish institutions continues to be a daily occurrence, these emergency supplemental funds mean more peace of mind for Jewish organizations in DC and the families they serve.

“Everyone deserves the opportunity to gather and worship in peace. These dollars will make it easier and safer for all DC residents to do that. We are grateful to have local leaders who care so much about their communities, and in so doing set an example for localities across the country to follow.”
