JCRC Executive Committee Statement in Response to Senator Chris Van Hollen

JCRC Statement

The following is a statement from the Executive Committee of the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of Greater Washington Board of Directors.

“For 28 years, Ron Halber has led the JCRC with unmatched integrity and professionalism. Recent personal attacks leveled against him by Sen. Chris Van Hollen are undignified, unwarranted, and untrue. Ron and his leadership team have our full backing and support.

“Under Ron’s direction, the JCRC now comprises more than 100 constituent organizations. Hundreds of students, parents, families, interfaith leaders, community organizers, and advocates help advance our mission every day. In the aftermath of the worst slaughter of Jews since the Holocaust, Ron has unapologetically defended Israel and worked tirelessly on behalf of the hostages and their families. Amid unprecedented antisemitism in our region, he has fiercely defended Jewish families and all those who stand up to hate.

“In a time marked by division and discord, political leaders should model respectful behavior and discourse. We are deeply disappointed that Sen. Van Hollen chose instead to malign Ron and our organization, but we are heartened by the outpouring of support from so many partners and friends. They know what we know: Ron and the JCRC support not only Jewish families, but the millions of people who live in the DMV.

“For more than 80 years, JCRC has been a pillar of strength and resolve in our nation’s capital region. We will always defend our community and stand up for our values.”
