JCRC Statement on Deadly Airstrike of the Holy Family Catholic Church

JCRC Statement

The following is a statement from Ron Halber, chief executive officer of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic deaths of Saad Salameh, Fumayya Ayyad, and Najwa Abu Daoud at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Gaza. We send our sincere condolences to their families and pray for the full recovery and healing of the parish priest, Gabriel Romanelli, and others who were injured in the airstrike.

"Israelis and Jewish people around the world know all too well the anguish that comes with the loss of innocent life. We recognize the pain felt by Catholics as they mourn their brothers and sisters in faith and stand with them in this difficult time. The Jewish people remain steadfast in our commitment to friendship and dialogue with the Catholic Church.

"We support a thorough and transparent investigation into this incident. We appreciate the Office of the Prime Minister's statement and assurances that Israel remains committed to protecting civilians and holy sites. And we continue to pray for the day when the entire Middle East knows peace."
