Join us on Monday, February 2nd for a town hall with Montgomery County Public Schools’ Superintendent Thomas Taylor to discuss issues of concern to the local Jewish community. The program will be held in-person and livestreamed, and is intended for all MCPS parents, guardians, teachers and high school students.
International Holocaust Remembrance Program
Alongside moving student performances of music and dance that honor the theme of memory, this year’s program will feature a talk by author Elizabeth White on her book, "The Counterfeit Countess: The Jewish Woman Who Rescued Thousands of Poles during the Holocaust," an extraordinary true story of a Polish Jewish scholar who reinvented herself as a false aristocrat in order to negotiate directly with top Nazi officials to save thousands of lives.

It’s not just up to Jews to stop antisemitism. It’s up to non-Jews to help us and stand against hate. With antisemitic violence on the rise in the last few years, according to incidents tracked by the Anti-Defamation League, political leaders and policymakers have a responsibility to act. Antisemitism is not a Jewish problem; it is a national problem that requires a unified response.
What does antisemitism look like in America? A grandmother killed in the street
Three states that we cover − Maryland, Virginia and Colorado − are in the top 10 for antisemitic instances. In 2023, the FBI reported, Jews were the targets of 15% of hate crimes and an astonishing 68% of religion-based hate crimes nationwide.
In DC, Hundreds of Jewish Leaders Advocate to Increase Security Grants
Guila Franklin Siegel, the chief operating officer of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington, led a meeting with Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) about increased funding for security grants. She cited the recent instance of assault and disorderly conduct at Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville to emphasize the importance of security funding.
