Take Action Now to Thank Our 5 NoVA School Boards

Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent Search Process

Last week FCPS released a community survey to gather public input on the search for a new school superintendent.  This survey is open to all Fairfax County residents as well as FCPS stakeholders.  We strongly encourage you to take a few minutes to submit responses so that those involved in the recruitment and hiring process hear our community’s priorities and concerns.  The deadline for submission is next Tuesday, January 18, 2022.  Follow this link to complete the survey.

In addition to the survey, three virtual town halls have also been scheduled to allow community members to provide feedback regarding the search process, on January 12th, 13th, and 18th. Follow this link for times and to register.

Thank the school boards in Arlington, Loudoun, Prince William, Falls Church and Alexandria for including school closures on days coinciding with 2022 Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur

The JCRC is enormously gratified that the Arlington, Falls Church, Prince William and Loudoun* school boards, for the second year, adopted truly inclusive and equitable academic calendars that include closures on key minority-faith holidays, including the first day of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.  The City of Alexandria Public Schools has for the first time followed suit, adopting a calendar with the same key closures. **

It is important that we express our appreciation to our school board members in Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church, Loudoun and Prince William. Please take a moment now to thank them for their leadership and support by selecting the appropriate link for your school district below.

*Please note that in Loudoun County the first day of Rosh Hashanah in 2022 has been designated as a professional development day.  We understand that while this is wonderful news for Jewish students and their families, it might be challenging for Jewish faculty and other select Jewish employees. We are in communication with our LCPS colleagues to ensure that Jewish employees are appropriately accommodated on that day as necessary.

**Please note that the Fairfax County School Board is scheduled to begin deliberations on the FCPS 2022-2023 calendar this month. Opportunities for advocacy on that front will be forthcoming over the next several weeks.
